Reminder of events over the next couple days:
Fri 7/18 7:30pm "Marx in Soho" (IMC on Fri)
Independent Media Center, 202 S. Broadway, Urbana
AND
Sat 7/19 7:30pm "Marx in Soho" (Channing-Murray on Sat)
Channing-Murray Foundation, 1209 W. Oregon, Urbana
One-man play, written by Howard Zinn, performed by
visiting sociologist/actor Jerry Levy.
"Due to some Brigadoon-like miracle, Karl Marx has been granted
permission to return to earth for a day to explain once more to
disciples and detractors alike what he really meant -- continuing
to insist, for example, that he was not a Marxist. But a mixup in
the celestial bureaucracy has resulted in him appearing in the Soho
area of New York rather than London, where he lived and died."
$5 donation suggested. Any revenue in excess of expenses will benefit
the IMC and Channing-Murray. More at: http://www.levyarts.com/
Fri 7/18 9:00pm "Full Moon Drum Circle"
At the pond at Japan House. Parking lot entrance
is on Lincoln, just south of Florida & Lincoln.
Bring drums, shakers, any other instruments, children, animals,
friends, YOURSELF. Please no alcohol. You do not need to play
music or dance when you come. Just relax and listen to the beats
of percussion instruments and the whistling of the crickets.
Sat 7/19 2:00-4:00pm "Peace Demonstration at Country Fair"
On S. side of Springfield Ave., one block west of Mattis,
on the sidewalk in front of Arby's parking lot. If many
people come, some might be on Springfield & Mattis corners too.
Special anti-war demonstration at a different place -- Country Fair --
and time. (AWARE will be back at Main & Neil on first Sat in August.)
This 7/19 date coincides with a United for Peace and Justice
call for nationwide action opposing war on Iran; see
http://www.unitedforpeace.org/article.php?id=3915
We'll stand just west of a stoplight facing the Country Fair
parking lot exit. Some eastbound drivers stop there; a large
tree gives some shade (!); and we might end up talking with a few
Arby's customers.
Parking: Please *don't* park in Arby's lot nor in other adjacent
businesses'. The big general-use lot, just across Springfield
to the north, is good. Or, the 50 Green and 70 Grey buses stop
at Country Fair.
