To members of the Gender and Women's Studies Program:

Need to free up some shelf space?

The Odyssey Project is holding a book drive for housing communities
that have shown strong support for adult education in the humanities
in Champaign-Urbana. We would like to ask for your help in
contributing books to encourage literacy and humanities education in
our community.

We have placed a box in the GWS office near the mailboxes for book
donations. Texts and learning materials for all age groups are
welcome.

Special requests:
-reference books (such as dictionaries and thesauruses)
-poetry, fiction, and non-fiction
-atlases and maps
-philosophy books
-American history books
-African American history books
-art history books
-books on women's rights and civil rights
-children's books, including activity books or CD-ROMs
-books for teens
-graphic novels, comic books

Books in good condition will be donated to Joanne Dorsey Homes and
Restoration Urban Ministries. Joanne Dorsey Homes is a public housing
community in Champaign with a newly-renovated Family Resource Center,
featuring a study room with computer terminals and reading tables.
Restoration Urban Ministries is 74-unit transitional housing program
in Champaign that provides food pantry and clothing, religious
services, youth programs, and drug and alcohol support groups. Both
centers would like to make quality books available to residents and
their children.

The Odyssey Project, sponsored by IPRH and the Illinois Humanities
Counsel, offers free college-accredited humanities courses to adults
in low-income households in Champaign-Urbana. To learn more about the
Odyssey Project, please contact 244-3344 or visit our website at

Thank you,

Tara Lyons
