Is this information correct? I looked at the Urbana City website and I don't
see any council meetings scheduled for today.

Greens support decriminalization and we don't have a scheduling conflict on
Monday, so we'll try to have someone there. People should also email their
ucc rep about the issue.

And in response to your question Ricky,
there is no planned showing
CUCPJ is busy with the Unity March and Carol's campaign
and I know the Greens are also in the middle of campaign season
but it would be great if folks could show up next week
and speak from wherever you speak.

At this point it looks like there is going to be an ordinance passed
but (like the CPRB) its important to make sure its got teeth.
We should ask Chief Bily to put policy in writing - everybody can agree to
policy
so officer discretion does not lead to racial preference/bias.

Put the date on you calender.

No problem, Brian -

Thanks for keeping us informed. Is there a mass showing/speakout planned?
Do we have talking points to offer folks, or shou;ld we speak from the
heart?

This is a very important change, which I know fmr Councilmember and friend
of us all Danielle C. championed for quite awhile. Too many young people
have their lives ruined before they get started good, with lunatic charges
for what often amounts to harmless behavior ... this kind of criminal charge
is not a realistic road to reform for a young person who may be struggling,
unsure what to do with themselves yet, or who may simply want to take a
different path once the heady days of youthful indiscretion and presumed
immortality have passed. It's nobody's business, but even if it were,
criminal charges wouldn't help.

Sorry for the confusion - Urbana City Council will be considering a
decriminalization ordinance next week, Monday, Sept. 29. BD
