Jesse Masengale, a member of the Safe Haven community, will appear in
Champaign city court on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 9 a.m. in Courtroom L before
Judge Klaus.

He is charged with obstructing and resisting a Champaign police officer.

Witnesses say these are bogus charges. They stem from an incident on June 8,
2009, when Champaign police showed up at the Catholic Worker House with a
video camera to conduct surveillance of the Safe Haven tent community. Jesse
stepped tried to intervene. He was subsequently given two tickets and a
notice to appear in court. If he cannot afford to pay the fines, Jesse faces
jail time.
