[ Dear Peace, Upcoming Events from Tuesday, December 8th, 2009 ]

This morning [10:30AM, Tuesday, December 8, 2009], the Champaign
County State's Attorney released the results of the investigation into
the Champaign police killing the unarmed 15-year-old on October 9
[2009] [Kiwane Carrington].
Note that the State's Attorney's office has had the report for weeks.
Yesterday, Monday, December 7, CU Citizens for Peace and Justice held
a press conference calling into question the Champaign County State's
Attorney, saying she was biased. After CU Citizens for Peace and
Justice held their press conference, the State's Attorney's Office
announced they would release the report this morning.

Wednesday, December 9th at 6:30 PM, there will be an Immigration
Reform Rally on Campus.
6:30 PM, in the Foellinger Auditorium (located at the south end of the
quadrangle)
[ The IDream Coalition is hosting the D.R.E.A.M. Act/Immigration Reform Rally]

on Thursday, December 10,
The Department of African American Studies on campus will host a panel
discussion, "The Responsibility of Black Studies in the Current
Crisis"
at 7:00pm in the African American Studies Building, 1201 West Nevada
Street, Urbana.

AWARE Films invites you to a FREE screening of "Gulliver's Travels," a
1939 full-length animated feature.

Sunday, December 20th at the Champaign Public Library, Room C.
Refreshments and after-film visiting. A fun event for all ages!

A joyful celebration of peace
"Our program will be spirited, joyful and hopeful, full of variety,
community and fun."

There is an open invitation to perform and share.
Each performance or "sharing" taking from 30 seconds to 12 minutes.
Anything that expresses the theme of peace, has “peace” in the title
or text, or that is intended to give an overall sense of peace would
be appropriate. [We’re looking for visual art, song, dance,
instrumental music, and spoken word (poems, stories, famous or
not-so-famous speeches, quotations, readings, etc). Original pieces
are as welcome as published works.]
We’ll also provide a table for any promotional materials you may wish
to display.

DEVELOPING RELATIONSHIPS TO EMPOWER HUMANITY

This program will feature hands-on art projects, dancers, musical
groups, and the announcement of the 2010 MLK scholarship winners.
