"American society is now remarkably atomized. Political organizations
have collapsed ... The Left has a lot to answer for here. There's
been a drift toward very fragmenting tendencies among Left groups,
toward this sort of identity politics." --Noam Chomsky

This week the Democrats in the House of Representatives voted billions of
dollars for President Obama's murderous expansion of the war in AfPak. Elected
as the peace candidate in 2008, Obama has co-opted popular movements in the US
against the war and against corporate globalization, to the great advantage of
elite groups and institutions.

Is it generally the case that Liberals have effectively destroyed the Left in
the US? This question will be discussed on this week's "News from Neptune" on
Urbana Public Television, Friday 19 June at 7pm on cable channel 6.

Discussants will be Robert Dunn, David Johnson, and Carl Estabrook. In an
hour-long program, panel members will present statements on the question
seriatim, and then each will question the others on their views.

Our program -- a spontaneous and unrehearsed discussion of the news of the week
and its coverage by the media – is named in honor of Noam Chomsky, who said that
in the US media, “Either you repeat the same conventional doctrines everybody is
saying, or else you say something true, and it will sound like it’s from Neptune.”
