Dear Niloofar and Liz,

I think that IMC would be fine for the April 25 event. One question -- how many can be seated at IMC?

Conrad

Hello Conrad and Liz,

Thanks for organizing this event. I want to make sure that I have the correct date, Saturday, April 25, and not 24. As far as a venue for the event goes, what does everyone think of IMC?

Niloofar

Dear Elizabeth,

Thank you for providing the information about the date on which CSAMES has arranged for a talk by Anna Baltzer. I recall being very impressed during her earlier presentation at the Community United Church of Christ and am delighted that she will be here in Champaign-Urbana again on Saturday, April 24.

I can think of several prospective co-sponsors for Anna's presentstion:
  1. AWARE - AWARE Presents, the working group that plans invitations to speakers to our community, will be meeting this coming Monday evening, and I will ask to have this on our agenda. Several members of AWARE are receiving copies of this reply.
  2. Mennonite PJI - The Peace and Justice Initiative of First Mennonite Church will most likely be interested in co-sponsoring this. The members of PJI and the First Mennonite pastoral staff are receiving copies of this reply.
  3. CU Friends Meeting - Barbara Kessel, of the Champaign-Urbana Friends Meeting, is receiving a copy of this email, and she will probably be interested in presenting this to the Friends' peace and justice committee.
  4. CU Interfaith Alliance - The Champaign-Urbana Interfaith Alliance, in which I participate, may also be interested. CUIFA will also be receiving copies of this reply.
  5. CIMIC - The Central Illinois Mosque and Islamic Center has a strong concern about the plight of Palestine. I have included Naeem Sheikh of CIMIC for them to receive a copy of this.
  6. I can think of other groups that might be interested.

I will present this request about the Mennonite Church providing venue for Anna's talk. I'm quite sure that, if there is not already a conflict on the church calendar for Saturday, April 24, that this would be well received by the church.

Thank you again, Elizabeth, for writing, and we'll be staying in touch.

In friendship,
Conrad Wetzel

Dear Conrad Wetzel,

The Center for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (CSAMES) is bringing Anna Blatzer to Urbana-Champaign on Saturday, April 25, for a community lecture. Niloofer Shambayati suggested I contact you about the event. Anna will be presenting on "Living in Occupied Palestine," and we are thinking about having Palestinian dancers put on a brief show before the lecture as well. If you are interested in co-sponsoring the event through monetary, publicity, or other means, please let me know! You can find more information about Anna at www.AnnaInTheMiddleEast.com.

We are also looking for a venue for the lecture; would the Mennonite Church have space we can use? If not, can you suggest any good venues for a community lecture? Thank you for your time and help.

Best regards,
Elizabeth
