A press
conference is being held Monday, October 12 at 10 a.m. at the Independent Media
Center with family members and community leaders to address the police killing
of 15 year-old African American youth, Kewanne Carrington. On Friday, October
9, 2009, in a struggle between two youth and two Champaign police officers that
involved Police Chief R.T. Finney, a gun went off that killed the young Kewanne.

When the
youth’s aunt Rhonda Williams went to the emergency room and inquired about her
son just minutes after it happened, she was turned away and told to go to the
police station. Police identified the body not by contacting the family, but from
a school photograph they had obtained from Ready Middle School, where
Carrington attended.

There are
still many questions about this tragedy which police have refused to answer.
The family and the community deserve an explanation.

When: Monday,
Oct. 12 at 10 a.m.

Where:
Independent Media Center, 202 S. Broadway, old post office in downtown Urbana
