TODAY, Tues., Sept. 15, 1 p.m.. Urbana City Council Chambers, 400 S. Vine St.  Taping of "AWARE on the Air" for broadcast later the same day.
 
TODAY, Tues., Sept. 15, 10 p.m. broadcast on cable channel 6, Urbana public television, of "AWARE on the Air," taped earlier in the day

Sept. 20 Sunday, 2 - 4 p.m.  Champaign Public Library Pavilion Rm C.  Film and discussion:  "Rethink Afghanistan," the new movie by Robert Greenwald.   http://rethinkafghanistan.com.
 
Sept. 21 Monday, International Day of Peace 12 noon on the University of Illinois Quad, just south of the Illini Union
What: An Antiwar rally to let the antiwar voice on campus be heard.  Finish the withdrawal from Iraq!  No surge into Afghanistan!  Healthcare for our Vets!
 
Monday, Sept 21, 8 - 9 p.m.  Alma Mater statue (in front of Altgeld Hall, U of I, Green and Wright Sts.)  "Peace Within Our Lifetime," a CANDLELIGHT VIGIL in observance of International Day of Peace.   Share the message of peace and justice to all regardless of race, religion, nationality, gender or sexual orientation.    Please provide your own candle. Thurs. Sept. 24, 5:30 p.m., in front of the Courthouse in downtown Urbana:  Jobs With Justice organized demonstration on economic justice issues.   For more information contact Ricky Baldwin, 328-3037 or balwinricky at yahoo.com.

Minutes of 09/13/09 AWARE Meeting:
 
Almost all of AWARE materials were moved out of the "closet" of the family room of the IMC and relocated in the family room proper or into some open space in the room outside the bike co-op.  
 
There were five in attendance.    Stuart Levy, Rick Esbenshade, Ron Szoke, Shara Esbenshade and Carol McKusick
 
We didn't have minutes from last week.  
 



Finance Report:  Stuart reported a balance of $955.45.   This included a collection from Sept. 6 of $42 and a farmer market take Sept. 12 of $38.  Contribution jar was passed. 




Working Group Reports: 


Main Event:  There was idea of having the next flyer be about Honduras.  Honduran friend of Shara with first hand account from being in Honduras this summer is writing an article for the Public I.  Ron suggested NACLA for background info.
 
Weekly Action:   We didn't have results from the recent weekly action to call the U.S. State Department about aid to the coup govt. in Honduras
 
AWARE Presents (Organization of education outreach type AWARE-sponsored events in the community)  :   Had tried to get David Swanson of the organization After Downing Street but it was going to be too tight for him in his speaking schedule 
 
Anti Racism:  No report.
 
Blackwater:  No Report
 
Student Groups:   Mention made of an event by Campus Anti War Network on the southside of the quad at noon on Sept. 21 .
 
Monthly Message:  No report
 
"AWARE on the Air":   Ron reported that they need people to come and discuss.  
 
AWARE Films:  Stuart explained that the film Rethink Afghanistan has six half hour segments and he will have to select two for showing on Sun.   He was urged to use the segments with the most general material.  
 
Farmers Market:   There wasn't a sign-in sheet but at this point it appears that Stuart will open and Ron will do the middle shift.   To volunteer contact slevy at ncsa.uiuc.edu.   It was said that there is alot of new material for sale. 

 



Old Business: 


Potential new working group on Israel Palestine:  Carol was urged to pick a time for an initial meeting and see if she can get anybody for it.  
 



Events of the past week.     



Shara and Ron reported on the Sept. 10 Champaign County Healthcare Consumers' public forum to explain the healthcare legislation being considered in Congress.   Ron and Shara seemed very favorably impressed by the cchcc organization's informational purpose in holding this event.
