Meeting in downtown Chicago, 11AM Sat. 7/17, to organize
a "Midwest Regional Action" anti-war event.

The event would happen in Chicago (as Obama's home town)
some time this fall, in the runup to elections.
Details below.

If you'll be in Chicago on the 17th, attending this could be

ACTION NAME: Open meeting to organize a Midwest Regional Anti-War Action

DATES: Jul 17, 2010 through Jul 17, 2010

TIME: 11:00 am

ORGANIZATION: Chicago Coalition Against War and Racism

DESCRIPTION: In the lead up to the recent U.S. Social Forum in Detroit, members
of the M20 Coalition began canvassing anti-war groups in Michigan, Ohio,
Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri and Illinois to see if groups
would be interested in participating in a Midwest regional anti-war action in
Chicago. Of those groups that responded, almost all unreservedly said "yes."

A small meeting on the last day of the U.S. Social Forum unanimously endorsed
the idea. Since we learned that the forthcoming Albany, NY anti-war conference
is probably going to endorse a national action in April of next year,
participants in the meeting at the Social Forum felt that a Midwest action would
best be held this Fall so as not to compete with the national mobilization.
Moreover we felt that having our action in President Obama's home town, before
the 2010 bi-elections, would bring the added benefit of a the threat of
electoral revenge on the Democrats, who are now the leading organizers of the
wars.

At the Detroit meeting it was decided that with input from continued canvassing
of out-of-town groups, a Chicago meeting on Saturday, July 17 would decide the
date of the Midwest Regional Action. The meeting also decided that while a
central component of the action would be a permitted march, we would respect a
diversity of tactics, and that actions ranging from civil disobedience to
skill-shares to cultural events would be welcome.

If you are interested in helping organize a Midwest regional action against the
wars this fall, we encourage you to please attend an open organizing meeting
here in Chicago:
