I can personally advocate for the Alternative Spring Break program as
a great way to educate college students about poverty and social
issues in the United States. -karen medina

The University YMCA is having a 5k run /walk on October 17th to raise
money for their ASB programs. (The participants usually have to pay to
go on an ASB trip, but some students cannot afford the fee.  The local
Y has a scholarship fund for these people).

See the official info on the 5k run/walk below...

But, also consider being a chaperone for an Alternative Spring Break trip.

ALTERNATIVE SPRING BREAK 5K FUNDRAISER THIS WEEKEND!

You can run it or walk it; participate competitively or for fun! Bring
a friend or two & enjoy a beautiful day at the arboretum with lots of
ASB love!  All funds raised from this event will help the sending of
trips as well as our Maria Somma Scholarship Program, which gives
monetary awards for applicants demonstrating financial need.
