Dear Peace,

Our monthly peace demonstration is Saturday, August 6, 2011; 2pm-4pm;
on the corner of N. Neil Street and Main Stree in downtown Champaign.

It is also the 66th Anniversary of the Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
The Hiroshima bomb was dropped at 8:15 A. M. August 6, 1945 directly
killing an estimated 80,000 people. By the end of the year, injury and
radiation brought total casualties to 90,000–140,000.

The U.S. still spends tens of billions of dollars each year to
maintain its nuclear arsenal and production capabilities.

We could use a flyer, if someone has the time to put one together. I
have some notes that might help someone get one started *

* This is a link to a very good article on the cost of U.S. Nuclear
Weapons up to 1996, and if we could put together a flier like this but
for the present situation, it would be great

1996's operational stockpile contains the explosive equivalent of more
than 91,500 Hiroshima-sized bombs.

In 1996, it was estimated that we would need $320 billion future-year
costs for storing and disposing of more than five decades' worth of
accumulated toxic and radioactive wastes and $20 billion [in 1996] for
dismantling nuclear weapons systems and disposing of surplus nuclear
materials.
