---------- Forwarded message ----------
I'd like to draw your attention to a new reading group that will be
starting this semester through the Illinois Program for Research in
the Humanities (IPRH). This group will explore the phenomenon of mass
incarceration in the United States.

We will examine:
how the U.S. came to have the highest incarceration rate in the world

The implications of mass incarceration for the individuals behind
bars, their communities and society as a whole

Possible alternatives and courses of action to reverse this trend

We will have our first meeting on Tuesday, January 25 at 5 p.m. at
IPRH Seminar Room, 805 West Pennsylvania Avenue, Urbana, Illinois
61801.

The main purpose will be to finalize our structure, time/dates for
meetings, topics/content of readings. If you would like to participate
and there are specific topics or books you would like to be included
in the reading group please contact James at the email below before
January 20th.
