Dear Friend Stuart, Thanks for posting this so far in advance; it makes it much easier to consider participating in helping with the AWARE booth. It reminds me of the many reason I admire you and hold you in high regard. I'll be giving this careful thought during the next few days, for I do want to spend some time taking a shift at the booth. I'll be doing that within the next few days and getting back to you as soon as I can, no later than Friday. Thanks for your taking the leadership in encouraging others to take advantage of this opportunity. As in previous years, I have a concern about the location of the AWARE booth. In contrast to some other booths, where there doesn't have to be a lot of conversation with those who stop by, it's an important feature of the AWARE booth to be able to converse with those who stop by, some to buy our wares, some who actually want to engage us in conversation about peace and justice issues. This is a very important feature of what AWARE wants to be able to do. In past years, the fact of how far away we can be from the stage where bands might be playing has proven to be a SIGNIFIANT feature, I noticed that visitors feel discouraged from talking very much because of the noise factor. So I hope enough early engagement with the committee who assigns booth locations can occur, with a focus on AWARE's need for as great a distance from the stage as possible. I trust you concur with my concern and can arrange for some attention to this need. Thanks, Stuart, for listening to my concern, and thanks in advance for trying to help arrange for AWARE's need to be met in this regard. And for taking the lead in engaging with the rest of us AWARE members in the planning! Ever in friendship,Conrad__________________________________________________________________In reply to:

Subject: [Peace] AWARE at the Sweet Corn Fest, Aug 26-27 - can you spare a couple hours?

For the last several years, AWARE has had a booth at the Sweet Corn Fest in late August. This year, it's Aug 26-27 (Fri-Sat).

We get to bring our anti-war, anti-racist views to a different slice of the east-central Illinois public than those who come to the Farmer's Market. It takes a lot of people time -- 5pm-11pm Friday, and 11am-11pm Saturday -- but has seemed valuable.

Do you have time to be there for a shift or two? We'll have our canopy (shade!).

In the past, we've had two-hour shifts with two people each:

    Fri 8/26 setup (before 4pm) 5-7pm
   7-9pm
   9-11pm

  Sat 8/27
  11am-1pm
  1-3pm
 3-5pm
 5-7pm
 7-9pm
 9-11pm (and takedown)

Cost to AWARE for the two days: $130.

We still need to decide on this, by Friday. I'd suggest, if at least a handful of us have volunteered by the end of this week
to work a shift or two, then we should be there again this year.

 Thanks to all,

 Stuart
