Let's talk about islamophobia -- this afternoon at 5.

The local International Socialist Org. [ISO] proposes that
they, AWARE, and CIMIC (the Mosque) put together some sort of
anti-islamophobia public event.

At today's AWARE meeting [5pm Sun 5/22 at McKinley Foundation,
at 5th & Daniel], Karen Aram of the local ISO will join us
to talk about this. We'll probably form an AWARE working group.

If you're interested in being involved but can't come this afternoon,
please write back (to peace-discuss, not to peace, please)
and we'll include you in the working group.

P.S. McKinley's doors will probably be locked -- signs at each door
will have a number to call, or come knock at the southeast-corner window
with the orange bag hanging out.

P.P.S. One thing that we could use as part of such an event: the film,
"Reel Bad Arabs" (50 mins), from Media Education Foundation, which
"explores a long line of degrading images of Arabs--from
Bedouin bandits and submissive maidens to sinister
sheikhs and gun-wielding 'terrorists'--along the way
offering devastating insights into the origin of these
stereotypic images, their development at key points
in US history, and why they matter so much today"
