Subject: Mass Incarceration Reading Group-next session

Attached find the readings for the next session, Wednesday, February
22nd at 7 p.m. The topic is Zero Tolerance Policing. Our readings will
be: 1) Chapter 4  from Christian Parenti's book, Lockdown America.
While the material is a little dated, it gives a good, succinct
account of the origins of Zero Tolerance Policing and is fairly easy
to read. 2) The Prison As Public Space by Craig Willse. this  is a
much shorter piece which deals with the issue of prisons and jails as
public space and public housing. The article emerged from a question
once posed to Angela Davis: "Where is the space of the
Prison-Industrial Complex?" Her answer was "everywhere."

Danielle will be leading this session and I think she plans to have
some people come and talk about how Zero Tolerance Policing is put
into practice in our county. Scott will be responsible for bringing us
delicious snacks. Thanks again to Rob for providing the pdfs.
