Fantasy and the Modern Urban Landscape."

EITAN BAR-YOSEF (Ben-Gurion University of the Negev) will discuss his
paper "New Cities for New Jews: Zionist Utopia, Fantasy and the Modern
Urban Landscape."

 Eitan Bar-Yosef is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Foreign
Literatures and Linguistics at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. He
authored The Holy Land in English Culture, 1799-1917: Palestine and
the Question of Orientalism (2005) and coedited "The Jew" in
Late-Victorian and Edwardian Culture: Between the East End and East
Africa (2009). His research interests include postcolonialism,
Anglo-Jewish history, Israeli cultural studies, and contemporary
theatre. Bar-Yosef is spending the current academic year as a fellow
at the Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies at the University of
Pennsylvania where he is examining the representation of African
travel in Israeli Literature and Culture.

co-organized with the Unit for Criticism and Interpretive Theory.]
