*LUNCH WITH* the GEO bargaining team

Graduate students teach more than 20% of all class hours taught at the U of
I. Last Thursday, the Graduate Employees organization voted to file intent
to strike paperwork. While making the filing does not authorize a strike,
the decision is reflective of the struggles graduate student employees are
facing as they bargain a new contract. Learn more about the GEO's primary
aims as they continue bargaining with the University, how likely a strike
is, and what a strike would mean for the undergraduate students they
teach.

*Lecture: "9 Billion People + One Earth = ?"*

October 24th, 4pm

Alice Campbell Alumni Center

After two centuries of explosive growth, the planet's human population is
widely seen as cresting within the next couple of generations. A mid-range
best guess for the peak remains roughly at 9 billion people. There are
even signs that resource-sapping activities will hit a peak as well. Will
we overheat or innovate, conserve or despoil, crash or round the curve with
a few scrapes? Andrew Revkin will present an optimistic, but realistic,
exploration of ways to share and shape ideas that can foster progress on a
finite planet.

*[Volunteer Opportunity] Thanksgiving Basket Drive *

Attention RSOs, RAs, and Student Leaders:

The Illini Union Office of Volunteer Programs is requesting your group's
help to make Thanksgiving possible for a family in need by donating a
Thanksgiving Care Basket to our annual drive taking place between October
29th and November 14th.

Imagine being unable to share a Thanksgiving meal with your family. Each
fall, through the Thanksgiving Care Basket Drive, the Illini Union Office
of Volunteer Programs (OVP) collects laundry baskets filled with every
non-perishable item that a family might need to prepare a Thanksgiving
Dinner and a $25 gift card for perishable items. You can help by grabbing
your group members and putting together one or more baskets. Drop full
baskets off to OVP (288 Illini Union) between October 29th and 7 PM
November 14th and make a Thanksgiving dinner possible for a family in need
this holiday season!
