Organizing for Drug Policy Reform in Illinois
[alternatives to incarceration, disproportionate justice, and lost
opportunity costs for other human services programs.]
Friday March 1, 2013
12 noon
Latzer Hall | University YMCA | 1001 South Wright Street | Champaign, IL

Details: Rev. Alexander Sharp will discuss how drug policy reform here
in Illinois is a moral imperative, exploring the connection of current
drug policies to Christian principles from the perspectives of
redemption, public health, treatment as an alternative to
incarceration, disproportionate justice, and lost opportunity costs
for other human services programs.

Background: Protestants for the Common Good was formed in 1995 to
bring an informed and strong Protestant voice to public life and to
offer educational resources and advocacy opportunities to people of
faith on matters of public policy. Since that time, the organization
has grown significantly in participants, budget, staff, reputation,
and influence. PCG has recently merged withCommunity Renewal Society
and will operate as the Policy and Advocacy program for CRS.

This talk is a part of the Spring 2013 Friday Forum Series Faith in
Action, featuring speakers from across the spectrum of faith
traditions who are compelled by their faith to engage in bold and
creative forms of action. All lectures are free and open to the
public. Lunch is available at the Y Eatery for $6.50/3.00 student (The
Y Eatery now accepts credit and debit cards).
