Asia Lens presents "Bön: Mustang to Menri"

March 13 from 7:00 - 8:30pm at the Urbana Free Library

The preservation of Tibetan Bön culture is portrayed in this beautiful
documentary. The film interweaves two stories: daily life of the Menri Monastery in Northern India (rebuilt after the old monastery in Tibet
was destroyed) and the life of Geshe Sonam Gurung (who journeyed as a
young boy from the ancient kingdom of Mustang, Nepal, to study at
Menri). Bön: Mustang To Menri has a universal message: Inspired individuals can overcome challenges and adversity and they can have a
positive impact on the world while giving back to the people, places,
and traditions that nurtured them.

AsiaLENS is a series of free
public screenings and lecture/discussion programs on issue reflecting
contemporary life in Asia. The series is organized by the Asian
Educational Media Service, a program of the Center for East Asian and
Pacific Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is presented in collaboration with the Spurlock Museum.

Also coming up: UFLive! presents Yellow Jacket Stringband on Sunday, March 17 from 2:00 - 3:30pm - An eclectic mix of
