Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center (UCIMC), a local grassroots
organization committed to using media production and distribution as
tools for promoting social and economic justice in the Champaign
County area, seeks a permanent, full-time OperationsDirector.
We are seeking a person with a commitment to social justice, strong
customer service and communication skills, with an attention to detail.
The UCIMC Operations Director actively fills vacancies, handles leases
and venue contracts, organizes the finances and files, and manages
facilities needs. The Operations Director supervises the UCIMC
bookkeeper and maintenance personnel, manages contracts, and reports
directly to the board.
Qualifications:
Understanding of and commitment to the IMC mission and social justice
work
Strong customer service skills and attention to detail
Experience with rentals, tenant relations, and facilities preferred
Experience managing and supervising personnel preferred
Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, Word, and web updating preferred
Ability to work effectively with changing priorities and to
communicate changes to members
Mature judgment, strong organization and communication skills
Ability to multi-task and work with a variety of people in a diverse
environment
Willingness and ability to work flexible hours.
Strong commitment to team-building, collaboration, and positive
relationship-building
Job Duties:
Contracts: Venue, Room Rental, Parking, and Fiscal Sponsorships
Ensures full occupancy of all rental and parking spaces through
regular advertising and showing of space, and signing of leases.
Manages and maintains space rental and parking agreements, collection
of fees, anticipating and securing renewals, and keeping a current
list of tenants.
Oversees and maintains all aspects of venue contracts, e.g. signing
contracts, collecting monies, security coverage, etc.
Serves as contact and manager of fiscal sponsorship agreements
Keeps the UCIMC public events and internal business calendars up-to-
date.
Sends out semi monthly announcements of upcoming events and volunteer
opportunities to the IMC-events listserv and posts the same to social
media.
Support the programming committee in responding to space inquiries and
providing tours.
Mail and Correspondence
Receives, records, and directs phone correspondence to appropriate
persons during office hours
Monitors, files or directs mail and correspondence to proper persons
or locations
Finance and Reporting
Monitors insurance policies, tax reporting, and legal contracts of the
IMC to ensure they are maintained and up-to-date
Updates the membership list with new members and sends out renewal
notices monthly
Organizes revenue and bills to be paid by the bookkeeper
Emails monthly reports requested by working groups
Insures financial bookkeeping records are complete and current
Assists with annual audit or financial review
Attends finance committee meetings
Understands IMC record keeping and filing systems, both financial and
non-financial, and keeps them current and organized by fiscal year.
Plans with board committees to ensure each month’s workplan represents
the priorities of the IMC and are balanced with other work.
Supports working groups with the financial aspects of approved grants.
Maintenance
Monitors and schedules work of contracted staff
Oversees technical contract with vendor for support of internet & phones
Oversees maintenance projects and contracts
Maintain key list and distributes keys
Work with the Facilities Committee to address security issues and
building issues
Additional Duties:
Attends UCIMC Committee meetings when requested
Keeps regular office hours and manage day-to-day issues as they arise
Salary: $12 per hour. 40 hours a week.
Benefits:
10 paid national holidays if a holiday falls on a regularly scheduled
workday.
12 all purpose days - one earned for each month of work.
Up to $100 a month reimbursement for documented health insurance.
Supervision and Evaluation:
The Board of Directors will evaluate the Operations Director at least
annually.
