[Peace] UIUC fires Dr. Steven Salaita after Gaza massacre tweets!

To those who believe in academic freedom,

Professor Steven Salaita

has
been FIRED by the University of Illinois (don't let them call it just a
"revoked job offer" - Dr. Salaita had a signed contract and had relied on
it to quit his prior faculty post) because of his tweets and public
activism about the Israeli assault on Gaza and Palestine. SJP UIUC is
greatly troubled by this distasteful decision of the university while
recognizing this to be a way to stifle the pro-Palestinian voice through
intimidation and putting strain on academic freedom.

What can be done?: Protest the firing of Steven Salaita by calling or
sending an email to the office of Chancellor Wise (217) 333-8819
pmischo at illinois.edu .

Please also copy Robert Warrior, chair of the Department of American Indian
Studies (which has supported Salaita's hiring) and the Department itself on
your letter: Robert Warrior, rwarrior at illinois.edu - American Indian
Studies, ais at illinois.edu: the department must know that Professor Salaita
has support.
