School for Designing a Society (SDaS) seeks Networker

The School for Designing a Society is an educational and performance project for people who want to use composition, design and language to address social/political/artistic problems. We are based in Urbana, Illinois, and also have programs in Hillsboro West Virginia (in collaboration with the Gesundheit Institute) and New York City.

We are seeking a net-worker who would recruit participants to our programs and would find venues for our performances.

The networker position begins May 1, 2014.
Salary: $10-12 hourly pay will be commensurate with experience
Hours: 10-20 flexible hours per week.
Desired Future: We want the position to become full-time, with commensurate pay and benefits. But for the first 6 months, we can only offer this part-time position, without benefits.
Office: This position is primarily work-from-home but requires some travel for programs. (Travel expenses for work-related trips will be paid by SDaS.)
Training and orientation will be provided by teachers of the School for Designing a Society.

To apply, please email your resume and cover letter to applications at designingasociety.net. Applications are due by April 25. Please give at least three professional references.

The work of the networker is:
recruitment by means of creating a 'net’: i.e., locating small pockets of potential participants in our programs, addressing them both by digital means (web page, social media, monthly e-newsletter) and by face-to-face contact (making presentations in schools, inviting people to a coffee, etc).

finding venues for performance: connect the performances of SDaS participants to the public. This would mean familiarizing oneself with already existent venues in Champaign-Urbana, as well as helping create touring routes outside the city.

We are seeking a person who is already experienced in net-working, or has some experience organizing events, getting in contact with interested people, keeping up lists of names and emails. The networker would be a person who keeps her word, who has her own initiatives and pursues them, who knows limits, and who 'dogs' tasks without needing to be reminded.
