James Kilgore is an educator, writer and activist based in Urbana IL.
He has written widely on issues dealing with mass incarceration and
has been involved in community struggles to oppose jail building,
fight racial profiling, ban the box and to build a local reentry
program. He is the author of three published novels, all of which were
drafted during his six and a half years in prison. His forthcoming
book is Understanding and Ending Mass Incarceration: A Primer, to be
published by The New Press in 2015.
