Hello,

Tuesday, September 9th will be recognized as a National Day of Silence for
the reinstatement of Dr. Steven Salaita to his faculty position with the
American Indian Studies Department at the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign. On this day, all students are encouraged to stand up and
walk out of their classes at 11:30am and gather on the Main Quad until 1pm.

Throughout the day, we call for all students at the University of Illinois
to join supporters across the nation in silent protest of this attack on
academic freedom and free speech. We ask for those choosing to participate
to cover their mouths with a sideways Illini ",” which will be provided on
on the Quad during the demonstration. We further encourage all participants
to take pictures throughout the day and share them across their social
media networks.

Rise up. Walk out. Rally on Quad.
