[Peace] UofI Climate Action Plan, "Catching the Sun", Inequality and Sustainability, Food Day, and other Sustainability Week events

Sustainability Week is this week, and a bunch of events are happening at
the U of I and elsewhere - 3 of them today (sorry for the late notice, I
just found out!)   See the ISEE's calendar:

    *Presentation of 2015 [University of] Illinois Climate Action Plan*.
    Among other things it "reaffirms [the campus's] commitment to become
    carbon neutral as soon as possible, no later than 2050 and perhaps
    as early as 2035."   The plan:

    Award-winning filmmaker Shalini Kantayya will share her new feature
    documentary
    *“Catching the Sun: The Race for the Clean Energy Future”*
    as the keynote event of Sustainability Week 2015.

    In the film, Kantayya follows the live
    s of unemployed American workers training for jobs in the solar
    industry to expose some hard questions about creating a clean energy
    economy. All the top powers are racing to become the largest
    producer, what will it take for the U.S. to come out on top?

    Unit One Guest-In-Residence Sarah van Gelder (of Yes! magazine) will
    speak and lead discussion about how we can transform the economy to
    address inequality and concentrations of wealth and power. What new
    democratic models are emerging?

     *4-6pm Sat Oct 24th,* University YMCA, 1001 S Wright St, Champaign
          *Food Day event,* sponsored by Students for Environmental
Concerns (SECS)

    Celebration of Food Day, “a day to resolve to make changes in our
    own diets and to take action to solve food-related problems in our
    communities at a local, state, and national level.” This year’s Food
    Day theme is “Toward a Greener Diet.”

    The event will be a potluck-style meal followed by a discussion
    about sustainable food growth, GMOs, food deserts, and more!

    Anyone attending is encouraged to bring a vegan/vegetarian dish to
    share; they may bring a small donation instead.
