On Monday, there are going to be actions around the country at Senators'
offices, demanding that the Senate debate and vote on the nomination of
Judge Garland to the Supreme Court.

Senator Kirk doesn't have an office here. But there is an action in
Chicago, and there is a train, so I'm going.

I figured, why not take a petition with me, to represent people who can't
be there in person.

See below.

Dear Robert,

*Demand Senator Kirk press for debate & vote on the Garland nomination.*
Take Action
<http://org.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=uI5H5E0TRUryh%2BwPwoJQYVOCMN1IZUl8>

President Obama has nominated Skokie native Merrick Garland, now Chief
Justice of the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, to
fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court. [1] Judge Garland was the
valedictorian of his class at Niles West High School. [2] But so far,
Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Republican Senate
Judiciary chair Chuck Grassley have insisted that the Senate will not vote
on Judge Garland's nomination.

Illinois Republican Senator Mark Kirk has said that he will meet with Judge
Garland. [3] But as Judge Garland's home state Republican Senator, we in
Illinois need Mark Kirk to do more.

*We need Mark Kirk to press his own Republican leaders for a debate and
vote on Judge Garland's nomination. Urge Mark Kirk to press Republican
leaders for a debate and vote on Judge Garland's nomination by signing our
petition at MoveOn:

The actions of the Supreme Court impact all Americans, but they also impact
people in other countries. In February, the Supreme Court voted to block
the administration’s effort to combat global warming by regulating
emissions from coal-fired power plants. [1] In June 2014, the Supreme Court
refused to review a lower court ruling in favor of "vulture funds" whose
effect was that Argentina had to pay “holdout” creditors who refused to
participate in debt restructuring agreements that Argentina reached with
the majority of its bondholders. [2]

I'll be delivering this petition to Senator Kirk's office in Chicago on
Monday. *Will you help me deliver a strong message to Senator Kirk?*

*Urge Mark Kirk to press Senate leaders for a vote on Judge Garland by
signing and sharing our petition:*

Thanks for all you do to help make U.S. foreign policy more just,
