1. On November 14 & 15, UIUC Students, faculty and staff volunteers will work
alongside local residents and members of nonprofit groups on various projects
in the community of East St. Louis. Among other projects, this semester we are
planning to build a shed on the back of Aspirations Adult Day Center, hang
drywall in a community theater and paint a handicap ramp. We hope you can

2. This year "A Fetching Ball" will be held on Friday, November 7th. The
Humane Society is still collecting prizes for the event; so if you have any
ideas for a prize, or any leads on a prize, please let them know. They need
volunteers to help with all parts of the event, including set up on Friday
morning. Set up will begin at 9:00 am on the 7th at the Hawthorne, and will go
until it is completed. Please let them know if you will be able to help with
set up by 5 pm on Wednesday November 5th. They still need some volunteers to
help out the night of the event, from 5:00 to 10:30 pm. Please let Julie know
if you would like to help, and what shift you want to sign up for, by Saturday
November 1st. The Shifts will run as follows: 5:00pm-10:30pm ** 5:00pm-8:00pm
** 8:30pm-10:30pm ** 8:30pm-10:00pm
FINAL NOTE: DOUG WILSON will be the emcee for the evening and HILDA-SANTO

3. The Humane Society is participating in the Chris Cringle Craft Show on
Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th. They will be setting up on Thursday
November 13th from 5 pm to 9 pm and need a few people to help get their booth
set up, stocked, and ready to go for Friday evening. They will also need
people to help man their booth Friday evening and Saturday. If you are
interested in helping during the craft show itself, please let Julie know what
day and shift you can work by 5 pm on Monday November 10th as well. The shifts
will run as follows:

All Evening, 3:30 pm - 9:30 pm All Day, 7:45 am - 8 pm
First shift, 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm First shift, 7:45 am - 2 pm

4. This is your opportunity to help the community and have fun at the same
time! Volunteers are needed to work inside Tent City during the IHSA State
Football Championships on Nov. 28-29, 2003 to pass out complimentary
souvenirs, make sure the coachesroom is stocked with food and drinks, monitor
the interactive games, answer questions about the community from the fans, and
pick up trash as necessary. Shifts are 9-12pm, 12-3pm, 3-6pm, and 6-9pm on

5. Prairie Players is sponsoring a Charles Dickens Festival for the first
weekend in December (4 & 5), 2003. The festival will be held at the Historic
Lincoln Hotel. We are seeking volunteers, actors, singers, dancers, musicians
and merchants. The Dickens Festival is an interactive event where the
performers and participants engage with the patrons. Actors will portray
various characters from Dickens books and present small vignettes scenes
throughout the hotel. Singers and dancers will perform traditional songs and
dances of the Victorian era. Throughout the hotel there will be carolers,
puppet shows, story tellers, children craft area, toy shop, candy shop, etc.
Merchants selling their wares: Victorian clothing, accessories, perfumes,
oils, soaps, candles, chocolate, fans, books and the list goes on. Volunteers
are needed to assist with the children's craft area, gift wrap, cloak room,
silent auction, carolers, strolling minstrels, telegram runners, parlor games,

6. The Urbana Park District is looking for coaches for youth basketball. The
season begins in early December. Positions available are head coaches and
assistant coaches. Practices are twice a week with games on Saturdays
