1. Last Week of the Holiday Toy Drive
Have you given a gift yet? The OVP sponsors the Holiday Toy
Drive which collects toys to give to local agencies to help
brighten a child’s holiday. The Toy Drive ends December 6th.
Email Lindsay at lbaran at uiuc.edu with the number of children
you would like to sponsor, and she will give you a specific
age bracket and requested gift ideas, OR you can just pick up
a toy without signing up for a particular child. We can
easily find a child to receive it.
Please keep your toy purchases under $15. Drop off new,
unwrapped toys in the OVP office located at 277 Illini Union
in the RSO complex between the hours of 9AM-5PM, Monday
through Friday. The toys collected will be distributed to
human service agencies in Champaign County. The Illini Union
Rec Room is offering coupons for a free game of bowling to
the first 100 people who bring in toys for OVP’s Annual
Holiday Toy Drive. There are still a lot of coupons left! If
you have any further questions or concerns feel free to
contact Lindsay or call the Office of Volunteer Programs at

2. Toy Shop at the Salvation Army
Help staff the Christmas Toy Shop! Toy Shop set-up, Dec 8-14,
organize tables, stock table with toys, etc. December 15-21,
Become a hostess or host to escort a parent in the selection
of toys. Duties will also include help restocking tables. Dec
22,23 - Toy Shop Tear-down, pack toys, clear tables, etc.

3. Decorate Christmas Trees
The Carle Arbours is looking for volunteers to fluff out
branches and decorate Christmas trees. Anytime between 9AM-
4PM, Nov 30-Dec 3. Contact Liz Dunn at (217) 383-6843 for
more information.
4. Calls from Santa
Help a child feel special as they receive a personal call
from Santa this holiday season! Volunteers will contact
children and discuss their holiday wishes. Contact Kristi
Bolton at (217) 398-2550 if you are interested.
5. Bell Ringers for Salvation Army
Bell ringers are needed in groups and individuals from now
until Dec. 24. Funds raised supports The Salvation Army's
programs in Champaign County throughout the year including
the Christmas Toy Shop and Homeless Shelter. You can ring any
time between 10AM-9PM, Mon-Sat. Contact Donna Rose at (217)

6. Crisis Nursery Holiday Shop
Assist children with their holiday shopping. All gifts are
between $1 and $6. No parents allowed in store!! This event
is on Dec 4 and 11 between 10AM-6PM, three hour shifts.

7. A 1930’s Christmas at Grandmother’s House
Meet Grandmother and her museum family for a 1930's holiday
during this family program at the Early American Museum. On
December 4th, from 1 - 4 p.m. find out how people "got along"
at Christmas time during the Great Depression. Volunteers are
needed to help welcome participants, help with making
presents of the time period and assisting the Museum Staff.

8. Jingle Bell Run
Volunteer for the Arthritis Foundation of Champaign County at
their Jingle Bell Run. Volunteers are needed on race day to
help with set-up, registration, course set-up, course
marshals, food service, and tear down. A fun one-day event!
The event takes place at Jefferson Middle School in Champaign
on Dec 5 from 10AM-5PM. Contact Audrey LeGrande (217) 398-
7815 if you are interested.
9. Hands on Science Lesson
Prepare a one time, one-hour interactive science lesson
suitable for early to middle elementary children (grades K -
5). Secure and prepare materials needed for the lesson or
call program manager and arrange to have her obtain some of
the materials. Set a date when you can visit the BOAST
Academy at Kenwood School to give the lesson, usually between
2:30 and 4 PM on one of the following dates: Dec 17, Jan 7,
14, 21, or 28. Contact Bobbi Trist at (217) 299-0912 for
further details.
10. Rootbeer Floats
Volunteers will help staff serve ice cream floats to the
residents of the Champaign County Nursing Home. About ten
volunteers are needed. The event will take place Dec 30 from
6:30PM to 8PM. Contact Kalah McGraw at (217) 384-3784 or
