3. I -Guides 2005: LEAD THE WAY to Community Plunge

As the end of the semester draws near, it's time to think ahead to what leadership and volunteer opportunities you'll pursue in Fall 2005. If you want to make a difference in your own campus community and welcome new students to campus, here's your chance. Starting Fall 2005, orientation will include a community service element called Community Plunge. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a service project, and the I-Guides will help lead them in this project. In so doing, I-Guides 2005 will be different from any year before. As an I-Guide, you receive the opportunity to move-in to university housing early to beat the crowds, and you receive a $75 bookstore scholarship. Each year, thousands of new students join our U of I community for the first time. I-Guides 2005 is a your chance to step up and LEAD THE WAY!! Register by Monday, APRIL 11 at: www.housing.uiuc.edu/living/iguides <http://www.housing.uiuc.edu/living/iguides> . Feel free to e-mail mailto:iguides at admin.housing.uiuc.edu <mailto:iguides at admin.housing.uiuc.edu> for questions or additional information you may have. Thanks in advance for your time and energy to share the Illini pride with new students and parents, as they become members of the U of I campus community.

4. National Volunteer Week

APRIL 16th through APRIL 23rd is National Volunteer Week. The Office of Volunteer Programs is planning a week of donation drives and service activities for that week. Are you interested in sponsoring a drive or participating in a volunteer project that week? If so, contact Staci Provezis at ovp at uiuc.edu <mailto:ovp at uiuc.edu> .

5. Alternative Spring Break: Benefit Concert

Each year, Alternative Spring Break organizes service trips during fall, winter, and spring breaks. On each trip, volunteers deal with a specific social, political, or environmental issue and gain experience and knowledge working with these issues. To help fund their upcoming spring break trip, ASB members need your help! Your attendance at the ASB Benefit Concert on Wednesday, APRIL 20, at 9PM at High Dive will benefit this great service project.

6. Make-A-Wish Wishmakers: Mile of Quarters

7. Habitat for Humanity's HOMEWORKS

Looking for a fun way to help out in the community? How about volunteering at HOMEWORKS, Habitat for Humanity's home improvement resale store? HOMEWORKS is a home improvement resale store selling new and gently used furniture, household items, appliances, and building materials to the public at greatly discounted prices. The 9,000 sq. foot store opened in May 2003 and is almost completely volunteer run. All proceeds go to fund local Habitat for Humanity home building projects. Below are specific volunteer opportunities that we need to be filled. We're open Tuesday thru Sunday, and could really use some extra help.

Customer Service Volunteers: Volunteers are needed during store hours to help run the resale store, assist customers with questions, help accept drop-off donations, and help to price, clean and display new donations. Volunteers needed Tues/Wed 12-7pm, Thurs/Fri/Sat 10am-5pm, and Sunday 1-5pm.

Pick-up and Delivery Drivers: HOMEWORKS is currently seeking volunteers on Wed. 3-7pm, Fri. 12-5pm, and Sat. 10am-5pm to help with merchandise deliveries and donation pick-ups in the Champaign-Urbana area. Help out just one day, a handful of days, or serve as an on-call driver.
