1. COMMUNITY BLOOD SERVICES OF ILLINOIS BLOOD DRIVE
If you would like to give the gift of blood, Community Blood Services of Illinois is conducting a 
blood drive from 10 AM - 4 PM in 314 Illini Union on the following dates: Friday, November 4; 
Monday, November 7; Tuesday, November 8; and Thursday, November 10.
 
2. ILLINI COMMUNITY CONNECTION DRIVES
Illini Union Community Connection is launching two drives: the 1st Annual Newspaper Drive and the 
Children's Book Drive.
 
The Newspaper Drive, which will benefit the Champaign County Humane Society, will take place from 
Monday, October 31 to Friday, November 11.  You can drop off collected newspapers in Illini Union 
Room 284 on November 11 by 5 PM. 
 
The Children's Book Drive, which will benefit the Champaign Early Childhood Center, the Crisis 
Nursery, and the Marilyn Queller Childcare Center, will be starting on Monday, November 7.  The 
Illini Union Bookstore is providing a 30% discount on in-stock children's books.  Drop boxes will 
be located at the Bookstore and in the Illini Union, Rooms 284 and 277.
 
3. MENTOR APPRECIATION EVENT
The Illini Mentor Program and Illini Community Connection are co-sponsoring the first-ever Mentor 
Appreciation Event on Saturday, November 12 from 2 PM to 4 PM in the Illini Union Rec Room.  There 
will be free bowling, shoe rentals, billiards, pizza, and pop for anyone who is involved in 
mentoring or who is interested in becoming a mentor.  Anybody who wants to attend must RSVP to 
iucommunityconnect at uiuc.edu by Wednesday, November 9.
 
4. CHILD CARE VOLUNTEERS
The Center for Women in Transition is looking for child care volunteers for their playgroups.  The 
playgroups are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 AM to 11 AM and 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.  Please contact

5. BONEYARD WEB DEVELOPERS
The Prairie Rivers Network is looking for volunteers to help set up a web page for an event that 
they are helping organize on the Boneyard.  This is an ongoing project, starting as soon as 
possible and continuing until Earth Day.  Please contact Kim Erndt at kerndt at prairierivers.org if 
you are interested.
 
6. HIGH SCHOOL SHADOW DAY
The Student Leadership panel for the University YWCA is seeking volunteers to help with its high 
school shadow day on November 11, starting around 9:50 AM.  They need University students willing 
to show some area high schoolers around for the day.  This is a day for high school students to see 
what college life is really like.  Volunteers will take the high schoolers to classes, give them a 
tour of the quad, anything to help them get acquainted with college life.  Lunch from Jimmy John's 
will be provided between 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM at the YWCA office.  If you are interested in

7. MINISTRY TO THE PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY CHALLENGED
The New Horizon United Methodist Church is looking to expand its vital new ministry.  The Ministry 
to the Physically and Mentally Challenged needs volunteers  on Thursdays from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.  
Volunteers will assist a trained processional with crafts, games, Bible stories, videos, music and 
snacks.  If you're interested, please contact Barbara Tuck at 359-1904 or by e-mail at

8. GIRL SCOUT VOLUNTEERS 
The Girl Scouts-Green Meadows Council is looking for volunteers with energetic and outgoing 
personalities to work with students in after school programs such as Champaign Unit #4 School 
District as well as in Girl Scout Troops/Groups throughout Champaign-Urbana.  If you have these 
qualities, please contact Rhonda Sykes at 328-5112 or Rhonda at gsgmc.org for more information. 
 
9. BOY SCOUT VOLUNTEERS
The Prairielands Council of Boy Scouts of America is looking for volunteers to assist Scout Leaders 
with students in the afterschool programs at King School, Prairie School, and the Champaign 
Schools.  If you can give one hour a week to make a difference in a child's life, please contact 
Keith Jones at kjones at bsamail.org.
