6. CAMP HEALING HEART
Camp Healing Heart is a special weekend camp sponsored by Carle Hospice for grieving children ages 7 through 17. The death of a loved one can be very painful and difficult, especially for children because they have limited life experience through which to understand death and how to cope with their feelings of loss. Children need special support as they grieve. In response to those needs, Carle Hospice is presenting an annual camp to provide children and adolescents with a safe and caring environment to express their grief, emotion, fear, and concerns and to teach them coping skills that will continue to help them through adulthood. The weekend camp will be filled with fun, age-appropriate activities such as arts/crafts, sports, and nature walks interspersed with expressive discussion and activities to help children through their grief process by building trust, self-esteem, and skills to cope with their recent loss.

Camp Healing Heart will be held on October 14 - 16, 2005 at the University's 4-H Memorial Camp near Monticello, Illinois. There are numerous volunteer opportunities available. Please contact Keziah McNamara if your are interested in helping by phone at 383-3151 or by e-mail at Keziah.McNamara at carle.com.
