1. Volunteer Fair!

Every year, the Office of Volunteer Programs hosts their annual Volunteer
Fair that showcases dozens of human service agencies around Champaign County
!  Visit the Illini Union Rooms A,B,C on September 7, 2006 from 10:00 a.m.
to 2:00 p.m.  If you are a student service organization that would like to
showcase your group at the Volunteer Fair please email the Office of
Volunteer Program at ovp at uiuc.edu!



2. Emergency Preparedness Exercise!

The University is participating in a county wide emergency preparedness
exercise.  40 - 50 volunteers to role play as victims during the portion of
the exercise that will be held on 9/13/06.  Their role will be played out at
a Surge Facility (temporary hospital) to be set up at the West Great Hall of
Memorial Stadium. Individuals who are interested in volunteering to
participate in this exercise can confirm this by calling either the
Champaign County Emergency Services Coordinator, Bill Keller at 384-3826, or
they can contact Ms. Anita Guffey, at 355-3550.



3.  Crisis Line Volunteers!

The Crisis Line, a 24-hour crisis intervention hotline operated through the
Mental Health Center of Champaign County, is seeking potential volunteers
for their Fall training.  Crisis Line provides emotional support,
information and referral, and suicide prevention to individual callers.
Volunteer training is scheduled for September 19, 21, 26 and 28 from
5:30-9:00 pm.  Volunteers can work from home or another location.  For

4.  Habitat for Humanity Internships!

Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County is offering an unpaid internship in
* Development*. Individual should be very organized and pay attention to
detail. Position includes working with business sponsors, major donors,
marketing and data entry. Creative thinkers encouraged to apply!  If you are

Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County is offering an unpaid internship in
* Volunteer Management*.  Prospective interns should be hard working,
enthusiastic and flexible individuals who possess or seek a working
knowledge of poverty housing, social hierarchies, race and class. Interns
should also be committed to continuing to struggle for equality and justice
beyond their internship experience.

5.  Tutor!

Help two high school boys with science and math during the school
year!  Contact

6.  Spanish Translators!

Planned Parenthood needs volunteers to translate for Spanish-speaking
patients in their clinics. We would like to set up a "call" list for when
Spanish-speaking clients make appointments. Please call Alejandra at
359-4768 for more information.



7.  Clinic Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers in the Clinic at Planned Parenthood help ensure that all of our
clients receive top-quality, personal and affordable sexual health care and
education.  Work directly with clients to set appointments, discuss health
care options, and provide assistance and more. Or, help keep things running
smoothly behind the scenes.  Volunteer opportunities are available for

8.  Book Readers!

Read books to a group of elderly residents at the Carle Arbours and let them
share their thoughts and feeling on the story. Open schedule.  Contact Liz

9.  Kids Night at CWIT!

Center for Women in Transition need volunteers to entertain and supervise
children between the ages of 3 months and 16 years old. Every Tuesday and
Thursday night volunteers are needed from 6:30-8p.m. Activities and supplies
will be provided. This is a great opportunity to build a resume if you plan
on working with children or in the social services field!  Contact Carie

10.  Library Aide!

Interested in working in a museum?  The Korean War National Museum and
Library needs your help!  These volunteers will shelve books as necessary.
They will also check to make sure the books are in the proper place on the
shelves. All volunteers receive a 10% discount in the Gift Shop.  Contact
