1. Volunteer Fair

Every year, the Office of Volunteer Programs hosts their annual Volunteer Fair that showcases dozens of human service agencies around Champaign County!  The Volunteer Fair is a great opportunity to find service events for your group or RSO.  Visit the Illini Union Rooms on September 7, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  

 

2.  Girl Scouts Diversity Education Programs

Help the Green Meadows Girl Scout with their diversity education programs for early elementary children in the next few weeks.  Dates and times include:  September 6th at 9:15-10:45am, Friday, September 8th at 9:15-10:45am, Tuesday, September 19th at 9-10:30am, Wednesday, September 20th from 9-10:30am and from 1:00-2:30 1st grade, Thursday, September 21st from 9-10:30am. 3.  Eastern Illinois Foodbank Internship

The Eastern Illinois Foodbank's Department of Marketing and Development is in search of an intern for the Fall 2006 semester.  The Foodbank, which is based in Urbana, distributes over 5 million pounds of food per year to food-insecure individuals and households in a 14-county area of eastern Illinois. 

 

They are looking for someone dynamic, passionate about hunger and poverty issues, and unafraid of dealing with the public; the ideal candidate also possesses excellent writing skills and an ability to take a project and run with it. This internship offers a small stipend and requires a commitment of 12-15 hours per week. 4.  Forest Preserve Fundraiser

The Champaign County Forest Preserve District is looking for volunteers to help out at their annual fundraiser on September 8th from 10am-7pm!  As a bonus, the forest preserve district is throwing in a free round of golf for any U of I student completing 3 hours of service that day. 5.  UCYCLE 20th Anniversary Fair

Help celebrate UCYCLE's 20th anniversary by volunteering!  Volunteers will assist city staff at recycling booths, pass out information and assist with recycling games to celebrate U-CYCLE's 20th Anniversary at the Lincoln Square Mall on Sep 23, 2006 (8 AM - 1 PM). 6.  Prairie Ensemble Concert Volunteers

Work behind the scenes with the Prairie Ensemble!  A stage manager and two helpers needed to transport and set up equipment for the dress rehearsals and concerts. 7.  Urbana Lions Candy Day

Help out the Urbana Lions Club with their annual fundraiser in October.  Volunteers are needed to "shake the can" in the community on Saturday, Oct. 7th, Friday, Oct. 13th and Saturday, Oct 14th. 8.  Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program

Volunteers will build a one-to-one mentoring relationship with a child who is in need of a positive role model. There are two ways to mentor: Community-Based mentoring - Mentors pick up the child, typically in the evening or weekend. They go out to eat and talk, go to the park, attend community activities, and do homework. School-Based mentoring - Mentors go to the school during the child's lunch period, study hall or after-school program and spend time talking or doing homework. 9.  Habitat for Humanity Internships

Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County is offering an unpaid internship in Development. Individual should be very organized and pay attention to detail. Position includes working with business sponsors, major donors, marketing and data entry. Creative thinkers encouraged to apply!  

Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County is offering an unpaid internship in Volunteer Management.  Prospective interns should be hard working, enthusiastic and flexible individuals who possess or seek a working knowledge of poverty housing, social hierarchies, race and class. Interns should also be committed to continuing to struggle for equality and justice beyond their internship experience.

10.  Operation Snowball

The Champaign County Operation Snowball helps high-school-age teens help each other learn self-awareness, self-expression, responsible decision making, and leadership skills. Volunteers are needed to attend Tuesday Night meetings and semiannual weekend Retreats, facilitating small groups with high-school-age teens. Volunteers will also participate in staff meetings and discussions about how to make the program more successful.
