1. Holiday Toy Drive (November 12-December 11)

Help put a smile on a child’s face! Donate new toys to local children!
OVP will be collecting toys to give to local agencies. Drop off unwrapped gifts (approximate value $15), at 288 Illini Union, from November 12-December 11. RSOs, make it a group event!  The RSO that  brings in the most gifts will win your choice of a free pizza party or a free DI Ad for your group!  For more information contact us at ovp at illinois.edu or (217)333-7424

2. Benefit Dinner at Noodles & Co. (November 16th)

Eat at Noodles & Company on Green Street Sunday, November 16 between 4pm and 9pm to help raise funds for the Holiday Toy Drive. 15% of your purchase will go to buying toys for the youth in Champaign County.

3. Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week

Join OVP and other service RSO’s in varies activities regarding Hunger and Homelessness.

16th Hunger Banquet Co-sponsored w/ VIP at the University YMCA 7pm
18th Benefit Concert, Illini Union Ballroom co-sponsored with Habitat for Humanity U of I Chapter Time: TBA

4. Cans Across the Quad (November 18th)

Cans Across the Quad, a program of the Illini Union Office of Volunteer Programs, seeks to fill the shelves of the Eastern Illinois Foodbank.  Food insecurity is growing in the Champaign-Urbana community and the Foodbank needs our help to keep its shelves stocked.  The 1st annual Cans Across the Quad event at the University of Illinois encourages a little bit of friendly competition between RSO’s, departments, residence hall floors, Greek chapters and community groups to in order to cover the Quad with canned goods.  Teams earn a point per pound of food donated and the team that earns the most points will have their choice of a free ad in the Daily Illini or $100 gift certificate to the Campustown restaurant of their choice (gift certificates cannot be used to purchase alcohol). 5. LIVE. LEARN. INTERN. SUMMER INSTITUTES

**NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR EARLY DEADLINE OF DECEMBER 5, 2008**

Sponsored by The Fund for American Studies in partnership with Georgetown University, the Institutes combine substantive internships, courses for academic credit, career development activities, site briefings and lectures led by prominent policy experts.

Students will be accepted in a rolling basis until the Final Deadline of March 5, 2009. Students applying by the Early Deadline of December 5, 2008 will be given preference in admissions and scholarship decisions and will receive a 5% discount on their tuition balance.

•         Internships – Competitive placements with top sites in D.C.
•         Classes – Up to 9 transferable credits from Georgetown University
•         Housing – Furnished on-campus apartments in the heart of D.C.
•         Guest Lectures – With Washington’s top policy and industry experts

6. New Hope Academy

Would you like to be a mentor or a tutor? The New Hope Church is starting an after school program this week and is in desperate need of volunteers. You will be working with students in 4th through 8th grade that need help with math, reading, and writing homework. If you are interested please contact Gayle Adkisson at NewHopeGA1 at aol.com

7. Apostic Light

8. The Catholic Network of Volunteer Services

What are you going to do after U. of I.? Get a job? Go back to school?
If you interested in giving back and making a difference in the world, consider a long-term volunteer experience.
The Catholic Network of Volunteer Services has member programs in all 50 states and more than 100 countries across the world including Africa, Asia, Central America and the Caribbean, South America, Europe, North America, Australia, and the South Pacific.
CNVS is the umbrella organization that helps students find a placement that fits their interests and talents in their desired location.  There are positions in every type of setting: large and small cities, suburbs, and rural areas in nearly 100 different service categories, from teaching and social services to medicine/nursing to community organizing and homelessness services.
You will find a placement that fits you, with people and communities that desperately need your services. Volunteer opportunities range from a week to a summer to a two-year commitment - and everything in between. You do not have to be Catholic or Christian to become a volunteer.

9. Transitions Resale Store

Do you love organizing? The Center for Women in Transition Resale Store is in need of volunteers. A group of 10-15 volunteers that would like to volunteer after 6 pm at Transitions for about 4 hours is needed. For more information contact:  Monique M.
