I have used physdiskwrite to burn the image to flash.
It works fine. Just be aware of which disk you are writing to.
If you pick the wrong disk, physdiskwrite will happily overwrite your hard
drive.

I've used it (and many others have also) on a PC with a compact flash to
pcmcia adapter to write the FreeBSD-based m0n0wall firewall image to a
compact flash.
