SUMMARY
* IMC US proposed for *internal new-imc* approval
deadline Tue 23 Sep 2003 23:00 GMT
* concerns (beyond mandate of new-imc working group)

hi everyone,
While there are clearly still many *individuals* seriously
uncomfortable with having a US IMC, IMHO the concerns (nationalism)
are *understood*, even if IMHO the responses to the concerns are
unconvincing. IMHO, the most likely block which might be reasonable
could be from US or North+Latin American IMCs that are actively
organising alternative

* cross-border regional IMCs (like NENA)
plus
* an America-wide (North+Latin) IMC.

In any case, clearly the *new-imc* working group cannot make such a
block, and an individual in a (presently) "national" IMC (me) doesn't
have the right to make such a block.

So i'm proposing IMC US for internal new-imc approval. i suggest that
any individuals feeling they have the right to block this should
quickly get their local IMC collective to consense on what
constructive action can take at the *imc-process* level, via their
liaison, who communicates for the local collective. Since the proposal
has been widely announced among US IMCs about two months ago (i
think), and it's one month since the initial proposal on new-imc
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/public/new-imc/2003-August/004275.html
i think that local IMCs (especially those in the US) should have had
plenty of time to come up with constructive counter-proposals, but i'm
cc-ing to imc-latina.

(dear ***imc-latina*** - Sorry for no [es] translation - a robot translation
is not a good idea on such a sensitive issue. If any latin american
IMCs feel they should participate in the decision, IMHO you should
participate on the *imc-process* mailing list when the proposal goes
there - most likely about 24 Sep 2003, with a 7-day deadline.)

i've put a general discussion of the IMC US proposal on the TWiki:

Please help clarify the concerns and/or responses if you feel strongly
about US IMC:

PS: US IMC - your rough mock-up is of course only a draft, but i
suggest that you quickly add the cities list to it - at the moment,
someone new to indymedia reading the page gets the impression that
indymedia only exists in the US, since it says

> { indymedia - syndicated }
> Collected from the IMC network

without any hint that the IMC network goes beyond the USA... This is
exactly the sort of racist attitude that people outside of the USA get
worried about - let's hope it's just a Freudian slip and that therapy
will follow as promised...
