Hi Betsy, everyone else,

I just spent roughly 1 hour responding to the previous email, only to have my
webmail time out on me. It was a good thing. The email was clearly too long,
but in a way, cathartic just to get it all out. Now I'll be quick and to the
point.

It is very important that everyone recognize a distinction that Betsy made in
her email:

'stlimc is not like indybay, pdx, or nycimc because we don't have this huge
network of support, but a very few individuals who are working their asses off
just to get by.'

This is a frustration that I have held onto for a long time... the
coastal imcs
have more national and international appeal/attention and it seems that
because
of this, they have greater resources -- volunteers, money, donations of
equipment/space/etc. There can also be more 'legitimacy' given to the coastal
imcs. I'm trying to think of why this is, but I can't figure out how to
say it.
What I do know is that there are people within the imc network and there are
people who use indymedia, but wouldn't align themselves with it; and there are
people in the us and people outside of the us -- more succinctly, all kinds of
people -- who look to the major coastal imcs to find out what's going
on in the
us independent media world. This puts 'legitimacy' and 'credibility' on the
shoulders of those imcs. It is a distinction that is apparent among many
midwest, southern, and great plains imcs and I don't know that everyone on the
coasts recognizes it as well. It's important because it creates yet another
power dynamic within the network and it is a good thing to be aware of one's
own power and figure out how to deal with that power.

So. Having said that, I also want to express my hope that lots of
imcistas will
show up to the Allied Media Conference in Bowling Green on June 17-19. We have
always gained momentum from these face to face opportunities, and i'd like us
to be organized and prepared to have some good discussion in bowling green. I
want to generate a list of imcistas who will be there, so we can start talking
about an agenda. Anyone planning on attending the amc, feel free to email me,
so i can compile a list.
josh- is there anyway to get emails of people who registered as imc?

Alright, that's it.
x, emily
