The inaugural meeting of the fundraising focus group took place at 9:30 last
night, 12/12/00, at 604 South Race. Pauline, Sascha, Paul R., Brian, Russell,
and Sarah (your trusty correspondent) attended. You were sorely missed, but
never fear--there's plenty you can do if you want to get involved. Read on!

We sought to better define fundraising projects and to find people to work on
those projects. Currently, those projects and workers are--
   Founding Funders--Sascha
   Grantwriting--Brian, Pauline, Sarah, Sascha, Russ
Retail (inc. newsstand, newsgathering supplies, etc)--Paul & Sarah (Zach?)
Coordinate sales of IMC news products--Brian
Darkroom coordination & rental--Brian & Brent McDonald, with some seed
   supplies donated by Russ
Bi-annual fundraising drives (including RFU)--Pauline, Paul, Russ
Special Events (eg movies, music, book talks, fundraisers)--Sarah, Pauline
Contracts with WEFT/WILL to produce content--Paul

We also identified projects that could be fundraising efforts and are simply
waiting for you do initiate them and coax them along to success. These are--
   1) Coordinate meeting space rental
   2) Manage small-scale coffee & sweets sales
   3) Coordinate library memberships
   4) Coordinate mass mailing for local groups for $$
   5) Newsletter (chock-full of funding grovelling, plus highlights of IMC
   work)
   6) Retail--we simply need more people to coordinate this effectively
   7) Photocopier
   8) "This Mini-Disk for Hire--" become a rent-a-documenter to groups to
record their events for $$--potential ethical questions were discussed
   9) Editor/subscriptions manager of an email news source

And as if that wasn't enough...there will be a grantwriting collective
meeting on Saturday, 12/16, at 3:30 at good ole' 604 (that's South Race).

As you can tell, there is no shortage of ways to raise money for the IMC.
There is, however, a shortage of people to adequately investigate all our
options. Please contact Sarah (respond to this email or call 384-5346) if you
want to get involved.
