[Imc] MiniDisc decks

The main thing about optical digital in and out is that only DECKS have
them, not portables. Except for the $1200+ Marantz and HHB pro models, NO
portable MD recorders have optical outs. But most of the current Sony home
decks do, as do the Kenwood and Pioneers, in addition to Sony and Tascam
pro models. Amongst older Sony decks, still available from discounters and
on Ebay, all models except for the MDS-3xx series (320, 330, etc.) have
optical outs.

A current Sony model with optical outs is the MDS-JE630, which retails at
$249. http://www.sonystyle.com/sonystyle/4784/4865/5103/7274/645.default.html

Minidisco sells a good Pioneer deck and the top-of-the-line Sony deck for
about $400, each with digital outs. (BTW, Minidisco is probably the best
minidisc dealer around). http://www.minidisco.com/miniorderdecks.html

The portables have vastly outsold the decks, so there are fewer models than
there used to be, but they're still out there--especially in the pro market
(http://www.minidisco.com/miniorderpro.html), sorta like DAT, but cheaper.
