CHIEF ENGINEER/WPCD-FM RADIO
FINE AND APPLIED ARTS

Parkland College has an opening for the Chief Engineer/WCPD radio station. This is a grade 7, professional support, 50 % (part-time), 12 month replacement position.

The qualified candidate will report to the Department Chair of Fine and Applied Arts and will receive assignments from others as designated by the Department Chair, especially the general manager/WPCD Radio. The chief engineer will also work closely with the Radio-TV/Video faculty/student advisor. Duties will include: repair and maintenance of all radio station equipment, installation of new equipment, monitoring equipment performance logs, maintaining broadcast records and charts, providing technical instruction to student operators, establishing project specifications and communications with vendors for pricing and availability information, and ensuring that the station is in compliance with all FCC rules and regulations.

An associate degree in Communications Technology or an appropriate closely related field or experience as a Chief Engineer is required. Approximately 3-5 years of experience in broadcast engineering, especially in the educational setting, are desired. Excellent oral and written communication skills, time management and strong organizational skills, verbal and mathematical abilities sufficient to prepare project specifications, install, repair, and maintain radio broadcasting equipment and perform other duties, are necessary. Functional ability in current word processing packages, with the ability to learn the Parkland information system and new programs as technology changes; electronics skills for equipment repair and maintenance, with an in-depth knowledge of FCC rules and regulations, is also required.
