The global IMC is starting a nat'ly distributed print project, made up of
stories from all the IMCs. Right now it might make more sense to get in on
this and distribute it locally than to try and put something together
ourselves--at least initially.

For those who are interested here is the note posted on the main Indymedia
site (http://www.indymedia.org/display.php3?article_id=29318):

In the interest of breaking the Independent Media Center network out of the
Silicon Tower*, the IMC Print Team is inviting Indymedia activists to join
the new Weekly PDF Working Group.
The Weekly PDF will be a global digest of Indymedia news, culled from the
newswires and features of IMCs all over the world.
DISTRIBUTION would be handled by individual IMCs and other alternative news
outlets and organizations. Hopefully, it would get into the hands of those
without internet access. It could be inserted into other publications,
faxed, stapled to poles, or placed in laundramats, bus stations, food banks
and in welfare and unemployment offices, to name just a few possibilities.
The PDF will be presented concisely, on a standard paper size, so that
small groups of people can print up copies to distribute as they see fit.
Proposed first four issues:
April 16: "pre-FTAA" What the FTAA is. Where anti- FTAA actions are being
planned and who to contact.
April 23: "post-FTAA" What happened during anti- FTAA actions around the
world.
April 30: "pre-Mayday" What Mayday is. Where Mayday actions are being
planned and who to contact.
May 7: "post-Mayday" What happened during Mayday actions around the world.
Tasks required to make the weekly PDF happen:
· RESEARCH: Finding stories and facts and forwarding them to the
working group.
· EDITORIAL: Choosing and editing the stories into "digest" form.
· LAYOUT: Pouring content into the PDF template. Returning content to
Editorial if it won't fit.
· GRAPHICS: follow the same steps of research & choice, but also
crop, format for printing, etc.
The Weekly PDF Working Group is looking for people with interest in
research, copy-editing, layout, and graphical work. Individuals should feel
free to volunteer for just one step of the process. Over time, people could
rotate through different steps and learn new skills.
Plus, TRANSLATION: For this to be a truly global publication, it must be
available in more than just English.
