Hi all,

I am one of the librarians at the IMC, just down the street from you in
Urbana. I'm just wondering how the online project for your collection is
coming? I just checked your website which said "coming soon" and had a July
date. I'd like to have a link to your site from our website
(urbana.indymedia.org/library) if that'd be ok.

In addition, I'd also like to propose a cooperative electronic catalog be
created listing ISEN, IMC and other progressive orgs' collections in one
database. Along those lines, what database software are you using? Currently
we have a bare-bones, flat-file database with a search interface written in
Perl/CGI (http://urbana.indymedia.org/library/mlibsearch.html).

One piece of software that I've been looking at is the OpenBook library
software (circulation, cataloging and search interface) at
http://www.trfoundation.org/projects/koha_w.html. It's completely open source,
uses a MySQL backend database with PHP and PERL interfaces to its three key
modules: a user or patron interface to the catalog (OPAC), a circulation
module and a cataloging module.

Is anyone at ISEN interested in pursuing a cooperative catalog? Please get
back to me at either the imc-librarians or at my personal email. In addition,
please forward to other orgs that have libraries that may be interested.
Together we can make a great information resource for our community!

in solidarity,

James Jacobs
