[Imc] mother jones and cd burning

i've been trying to figure out why folks can't burn a cd while using the
audio account. here's what i've learned so far:

the TDK veloCD-Rewriter (which is what's in there) doesn't have
independent cd-r/rw drivers. there are drivers, however they are only
activated when the Nero cd-buring software is started. the problem is
that the Nero software will only burn cd's in the Windows2000 if the account
has administrator rights. TDK and Nero both know of this issue, and as of
yet have not corrected this.

the ez cd creator software also does not connect to the TDK
veloCD-Rewriter, even though i've installed the update files for ez
cd-creator (which had the TDK veloCD-Rewriter 12/10/32 in the list of
supported drives....however, our TDK is actually a 12/10/32A, which seems
to make a difference to TDK and their firmware updates, so maybe our
specific drive doesn't work with ez cd-creator).

the TDK works fine as a CD-ROM drive, since it's using Microsoft's cd-rom
drivers.

until this is solved:

ship files to be burnt on a cd from mother jones to sergei's m: drive.
wait until all files have been transfered over, then burn the cd, else the
lag time of the network connection might cause the cd burner's buffer to
run out (thus stopping the burn process, and ruining a cd). then, when
the cd is burnt, remove files from sergei. there is a folder on the
m:drive called "cdburnfiles" so that you can ship you files to it from
mother jones, and then know where to find them when you log into sergei.

in the mean time, i suggest seriously considering buying another cd burner
for mother jones, one which doesn't need specific software in order to run
it (or if so, software that doesn't require you to be an administrator to
use it).

comments?
