I'm sure it's true, Paul.  There is much evil and hate everywhere.  But I 
tromped the length and breadth of the city -- well, I didn't get to the 
upper east side, where I'd likely have seen furs and gas masks worn 
together on the streets -- and what was remarkable was the spirit of the 
city.  I felt there was something to be learned from this experience of 
unity, even now as it may start to fragment and fade.  I'll be writing more 
about my observations.  While vigilance is essential to freedom, there also 
would seem to be a moment to acknowledge the ways in which we can and do 
share in the events of these days.
