IMC Steering Group Minutes, 28 Oct 2001, 12:00 PM

Russ facilitating

Reports from Working Groups:

Print:
- Form letters to local organizations soliciting articles and writers going
out this week
- Not much else to report

Outreach:
- Notes from Regional Gathering should be released after Halloween (Brian's
working on all the Prompting Theater haunted house stuff at the moment)

Space:
- Designs for a permanent sign being taken, contact Mike Lehman
- Bookshelf project almost complete, new shelving should be in place by next
Sunday
- Coat rack is definitely feasible, Mike and Space Group will put their
thinking caps on
- Fire dept. inspection last week
  - One small complaint relating to electrical outlet in back room,
currently being fixed
  - Extra fire extinguishers for haunted house, Brian will also ask landlord
to open back door as a fire exit

Librarians
- Working on an article about our library for 'Zine Library' (I think that's
the name)
  - Tuesday, Espresso Royale, 5:15, anyone is welcome to come and help
- Proposal to donate old vinyl in back room to WEFT record sale, no
objections

Finance
- $4500 in accounts receivable
  - Sascha needs help to work the phones an hour or two a week to collect
money, contact him if you want to help (and if you know anyone named Vinnie,
send them his way ;) )

Tech
- problem w/ MP3 uploading to server, Dan's currently working on it
- no meeting this week due to haunted house setup

New Business:

Prompting Theater's haunted house is running from Sunday to Wednesday this
week in the space
 - staffing not necessary these days, although any help setting up the maze
and other ghoulish accoutrements would be appreciated

Global IMC Editorial Policy adopted on global Process list
 - minor differences between this policy and U-C policy
 - not sure about effects, will keep an eye on it

WEFT and Democracy Now!
 - WEFT has had trouble getting Democracy Now! reliably from WBIX
   - proposal to Steering Group that WEFT uses IMC facilities to download
DN! Mon-Fri in exchange for underwriting during DN! broadcasts
     - no objections, proposal passes
   - WEFTies will need a key, Mother Jones or Sergei will be reserved from
1-2 PM every weekday for download and MD recording

SOA protests in DC
 - University Amnesty Intl. is going ahead with SOA teach-ins and organzing
for 16 November protests
 - Meetings are Mondays, 7:30 at the University YMCA; contact Aaron Koonsman
for more info

Clean Space
 - the core group of people who work to keep the space clean are getting a
little burnt out
   - please do not allow clutter to accumulate; clearly label anything
that's being left in the space and make sure that you know why it's here
   - put office supplies, production equipment, etc., back where it belongs,
or Mike Lehman will start bolting things down (we don't know how long we can
restrain him)

Bike Rack
 - Danielle is asking for a bike rack outside
   - in the meantime, please don't hurt the poor tree on the sidewalk by
attaching your bikes to it; bring them inside or use the bike rack across
the
street

Window Display
 - in lieu of an American flag in the window, Mike Lehman proposes that we
put the Bill of Rights in the window
   - Steering Group agrees to proposal
   - Mike Lehman has a temporary printout in the window; if anyone can hunt
down a larger reproduction, a PDF file that we could print out to a larger
size than 8.5 x 11, mad calligraphy skills, or something nice, please talk
to
him
