News Group Meeting, 1:00 PM, Sunday, 16 Sep 2001

Note: Somehow the notes taken for the news group wandered
through several pairs of hands, ending up in mine. In
addition, the first page seems to be missing. I'll try
my best to reconstruct an outline of what happened in
the beginning, but there's no way I'll remember everyone
who was there, considering I just met all of them.

In attendence: Peter Miller, Pauline Bartolone, Sarah
Kanouse, Paul Riismandel, Michael Feltes (Michael from
Decatur), Molly ???, Dave... shoot. I talked to him
at length. I'm so ashamed! This is where my memory gives
out; my sincerest apologies to those I left out.

Paul began by describing Mink, the new audio server.
In most respects it resembles Sergei. 100 gigabytes
of storage space are available. Switching between minidisc,
cassette, and speaker output is considerably easier,
simply a matter of turning a switch. Enthusiastic applause
greeted the end of Paul's description, after which it
was noted that Molly had approved of progress, a seemingly
infrequent event.

[notes begin... thank God!  I'm simply transcribing;
there will be gross errors, I'm sure, due to my lack
of familiarity with the subject matter and what I'm sure
is shorthand.]

MP3 is now able to be loaded on site.
Macky Mixer routed into P.S. box.
Mini-disk to Mink - will be optical
2 non min (long) #Paul has 6 fter.

WEFT - Programming
IMC [Newshour] : 5-6 [Monday] slot (except tomorrow)

Announce changes - Pauline
Free Speech Radio News and Radio Nation will not be played
on these days. Mixed feelings, reactions.

D: Play Free Speech @ that time.

New [Monday] lineup:

4 - Dem. Now
5 - IMC
6 - Friday Forum
7 - Radio Theater

P.M.: WEFT brought up discourse concerning the decision
making process.

Responds D.: "They were losing the momentum of the IMC
News Hour"

IMC needed an hour. 2 meetings (that were not with all)
where this was decided.
There are still options and the discussion is still open.

Impossible to move Friday Forum for this fall.
The committee may revisit this idea.

P.M.: Can we be content with a half hour?
- This would help program committee to ease discourse.

?: More public affairs time on WEFT.
