Across the country, schools are closing and prisons are opening. Billions
are spent on wars while social services are cut. In the mainstream media,
victims of government policy are often framed as those responsible for the
social and economic crises we face. Corporate ownership of the media
guarantees that groups challenging the corporate agenda fight an uphill
battle to get our messages out.

*We need to own and control our own media to tell our stories, express our
culture, and build a movement for human rights. *

After a 10 year struggle, media justice advocates successfully passed
the Local
Community Radio Act <http://www.prometheusradio.org/we_won> in 2011. Now,
there is a one-time opportunity to open up access to the airwaves for
social justice groups.

*In the next year, nonprofits and community groups will have a historic
opportunity <http://prometheusradio.org/start_a_station> to apply for
thousands of new non-commercial FM radio licenses!* This will be the first
time urban areas can apply and the last big chance ever to get a radio
license. These Low Power FM (LPFM) multimedia stations can be broadcast
studios and organizing hubs for our movements. They can be a powerful local
organizing tool, featuring local artists and news. Integrating new
technologies into these stations allows us to amplify our reach nationally
and globally. 90% of Americans currently listen to the radio once a week.

We need to organize human rights and social justice groups to get these
stations and build a national communications infrastructure that's owned
and controlled by our communities.

Prometheus Radio Project led this fight to expand independent media, and
is now providing start to finish support for social justice groups to
apply, build, and sustain these stations to amplify our movements for years
to come.

Join this webinar to learn how you can help build a new community
radio station in your community and support the expansion of independent
media nationwide.
