Champaign-Urbana has a vibrant filmmaking community with several 
feature films and dozens of short films produced in town every year!

The Champaign-Urbana Film Society (CUFS) is a local community 
organization that is excited to get local students working with film and 
video. To this end, CUFS is hosting a student writing competition called 
"Pens to Lens" in which students in Champaign County can submit 
screenplays. Local filmmakers will then select and produce certain 
student scripts into actual short films. Later this year, CUFS will host 
a free gala awards and screening event at The Art Theater. All art 
created will be created not for profit.

In late January CUFS will send interested educators a packet with a 
sample curriculum and sample scripts to help advise or teach 
scriptwriting. The competition will then run until the end of February.

We will be hosting an informational meeting for teachers and advisers on 
*January 16th at 5:00 PM at Shatterglass Studios* in Champaign (309 S. 
Neil St., Champaign,
IL 61820). All teachers interested in encouraging their students 
to participate are invited to learn more about the competition and to 
help advise the Film Society as we plan this inaugural annual event. 
Please let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions 
for us as we pursue this event. We want to help you as much as possible 
to make this a success.
