Cajun
Dance Lessons and Dance

"Let
the Good Times Roll"

Spurlock
Museum and the Champaign Urbana Folk and Roots Festival have
collaborated to bring a little Cajun Culture to Urbana Champaign on
Saturday August 31st at the Urbana Champaign Independent Media
Center, 202 South Broadway, Urbana, from 7 to10pm.

Please join
us for a foot stompin’ evening with the Cornstalkers Cajun Band: Matt
Turino on fiddle, Tom Turino on accordion, Randy Cordle on guitar, JB
Faires on bass, and Kristi Emilsson on triangle. Practice some
traditional Cajun steps at 7pm and then dance your troubles away from
8 to 10. As band member Tom Turino says, “The rhythmically
challenged will find themselves tapping along, the lame will
two-step, and shy folks may find they’re not so shy after all.
You’ve been warned!”

According
to Tandy Lacy, Director of Education at the Spurlock, "Part of
the museum's mission is to bring cultural events to the community
through collaborations with other organizations, and this is a
wonderful opportunity for us to do that in a fun and family friendly
way." Brenda Koenig, of CU Folk and Roots states that
"collaborations such as this have been instrumental in the
Festival's growth over the five years we have been presenting it."

You
can visit the Spurlock Museum at 600 South Gregory St., just east of
Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and attend this year’s
Champaign Urbana Folk and Roots Festival on November 1st and 2nd in
downtown Urbana.

There
is a $5 suggested donation at the door, and children under 12 are
free. This program is partially supported
by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.
